Longman Law has filed a class action lawsuit against Generac Power Systems Inc. (“Generac”), the company that manufactures PWRcell systems designed to store and control the distribution of power to and from solar panels installed on residential homes. The Generac systems contain SnapRS (rapid shutdown) components that are meant to protect against electrical surges by rapidly shutting down individual solar panels.
However, the SnapRS units are faulty and prone to overactivity and overheating, which can result in dangerous housefires. The problem can also result in a complete shutdown of all of the solar panels, causing a loss of power in the home.
Generac advertises PWRcell as an “intelligent energy storage system” that can “save [consumers] money on energy bills and keep the whole home powered when the grid goes down.” In addition to deceiving consumers with false and misleading advertising, Generac has declined to honor warranties for the many consumers who have experienced issues with their PWRcell systems. Generac has also declined to institute a recall of the faulty PWRcell systems, despite having recently reannounced a separate recall of Generac portable generators.
