Notice of Investigation: Toyota

 Longman Law, P.C., a national law firm, is investigating Toyota Motor North America, Inc. ("Toyota") for collecting and profiting from customers' personal information and driver behavior data without their knowledge and consent.

On April 21, 2025, a lawsuit was filed against Toyota, Progressive Casualty Insurance Company, and Connected Analytic Services for violation of the Federal Wiretap Act, violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, Invasion of Privacy, Breach of Express and Implied Contract, and Unjust Enrichment. The lawsuit alleges that Toyota collected customers' personal identifiable information ("PII") as well as data about their driving habits via telemetry tracking. According to the lawsuit, even if the customer opts out of the telemetry tracking program, their data is still tracked and collected by Toyota. That data is then sold to Progressive and other insurance providers, who use the data as justification for raising drivers' insurance rates and premiums.
